For my Honours project, I posed the question: how can visual communication be used to reshape societal perceptions of sharks?
Shark populations have declined 71% since 1970, and the vilified image of sharks is one of the most significant challenges for their conservation. Visual communication has the ability to change the way that people think about sharks by sparking curiosity, building knowledge and reframing narratives. In response, I developed a publication and collection of print media that uses data visualisation, typography and illustration to challenge societal perceptions of sharks and increase support for their conservation.
